The Sallisaw New Opportunities Working (NOW) Coalition will host a Reality Party in Sallisaw.

The Reality Party is intended to give parents an opportunity to get a glimpse into the life of their teenager. The parents will be given an opportunity to walk through a typical high school party scene, Sharon Day, Sallisaw NOW Coalition prevention specialist, said.

“The coalition is in need of a place to hold the party,” Day said.

The Sallisaw Youth Coalition will be providing the actors and they will be portraying those involved and will be sharing concerns expressed by local teens and young adults,” Day said.

“It almost seems some parents are completely unaware of the consequences of the party scene, binge drinking, drinking games, unplanned sexual encounters, fights, drunk driving accidents and even arrests are all possibilities,” Day said.

“If you would like to help with allowing us to use your home for the party you can contact me at (918) 775-7787 ext 2331 or Steve Rutherford at (918) 775-7787 ext 2333,” Day said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
