U.S. Rep. Dan Boren (D-OK) announced Tuesday he will hold a telephone town hall this month.

The telephone town hall will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday. The session, Boren’s last telephone town hall for 2009, will be one hour.

“These telephone town hall forums have been a very efficient and successful way for me to communicate with constituents that are spread out across the 25 counties of the Second Congressional District and the state on a broad range of issues,” Boren said. “All told we’ve had nearly 18,000 participants in the first three sessions, and the input and questions I’ve received  have greatly assisted with representing the citizens of eastern Oklahoma.”

Those wishing to participate should call any one of Boren’s offices and provide his or her name, number, and address to be added to the list of participants.

In Washington, D.C., the number is (202) 225-2701; in Muskogee the number is (918) 687-2533; in Claremore the number is (918) 341-9336; in McAlester, the number is (918) 423-5951; and in Durant the number is (580) 931-0333.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
