A sixth suspect in connection with area vandalism cases was recently arrested and charged with third degree arson on Monday.

A felony warrant was issued on Monday in Sequoyah County for Joshua Stemmer, 19, of Sallisaw. The suspects booking photo was unavailable from the county jail. Stemmer was picked up on the warrant Wednesday and booked into the Sequoyah County Jail. Stemmer was later released on a $2,500 bond.

Sequoyah County Deputy Lance Yoakum went to the home of Stemmer and asked Stemmer to come to the sheriff’s office. Stemmer told Yoakum that he and two other friends left his home around 3 a.m. Sept. 20 and walked down the railroad tracks to Hog Creek Salvage. Stemmer claimed he did not go onto Hog Creek Salvages property but his friends did. Stemmer said he stayed on the tracks for a few minutes then walked back home. Stemmer said his friends came back to his house 45 minutes later and told him they burned about six cars and vandalized several other cars. Stemmer’s arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
