“A Musical Christmas” is the theme of this year’s Christmas parade, sponsored by the Gore and Webbers Falls Chambers of Commerce.
Rena Thorstensen, Gore Chamber of Commerce media liaison, said area churches and civic groups, and all businesses which are members of either chamber of commerce, were invited to enter a float in the parade, designed around a favorite Christmas carol or song in keeping with the parade theme.
Thorstensen announced last week the entries and corresponding Christmas songs which have been chosen so far:
•Webbers Falls Head Start, “Frosty the Snowman”
•Oak Grove Baptist Church, “Beautiful Star”
•Rainbow Mart, “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”
•Lakeview Baptist Church, “Jingle Bells”
•Ogg’s Tires, “Blue Christmas”
•Gore Nursing Home, “Winter Wonderland”
•Tenkiller Trading Company, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”
•Armstrong Bank, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”
•Tenkiller/Greenleaf State Parks, “Oh, Christmas Tree”
•Harp’s Grocery Store, “Jingle Bell Rock”
•Grace & Bonnie (Harp’s Grocery), “All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth”
•McIntosh Baptist Church, “Alvin & The Chipmunks Christmas Song”
Thorstensen said there is still time for other groups and businesses to plan a float, choose a song, notify the appropriate chamber which song has been chosen, and then decorate their float according to that song.
Linda Bighorse, at (918) 489-5027, from the Gore Chamber, and Emily Ogg, at (918) 464-2625, from the Webbers Falls Chamber, are coordinating the song choices to prevent duplications. Organizers ask that Bighorse or Ogg be told which song has been chosen.
The Christmas Parade is coordinated by Judy Merrill and Larry Carter and backed by the Town of Gore, both Chambers of Commerce, and business members of both chambers.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 12 in Webbers Falls, and continue over the bridge into Gore. The parade will end at the Gore Fire Station where Santa Claus will greet parade goers, and announce the winners of the “Shop Gore! $1,000 Cash Giveaway,” now in progress. The “Shop Gore” promotion is sponsored by the Gore Chamber of Commerce.
All residents are urged to “Shop Gore!” and to plan to attend the “Musical Christmas” parade!
