When Terry Biggerstaff of Vian walked into Security Finance in Sallisaw and was denied a loan he allegedly started cracking his knuckles and bellowing threats to the employee.

Sallisaw Police Officer Travis Buchanan and Detective John Weber arrived at Security Finance at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday after an employee called and said a man who was armed with a knife was making threats.

When police found Biggerstaff, 37, he was told to raise his hands and get onto the floor. According to the report Biggerstaff took a defensive stance and clinched his fists and said, “You take me and I’ll take you!”

Buchanan fired his taser. Biggerstaff fell on the ground and was handcuffed and taken to Sallisaw City Jail where he was booked on simple and aggravated assault.

The employee at Security Finance told officers Biggerstaff became upset when he was informed he could not get a loan.

“I could see a knife clipped to his front pocket and it looked like he was reaching for it while he was taking off his jacket and making threats,” the employee said.

According to the report, Biggerstaff told officers, “I did not make any threats with a knife but I was going to use some of them black belt moves I got.”

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
