Vernon Richard Fletcher, 40, of Webbers Falls was charged Dec. 3 with manufacturing, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sallisaw police officers discovered components and ingredients needed to manufacture methamphetamines during a routine traffic stop Dec. 2.

During the traffic stop, Detective Herb Hutchinson asked Fletcher for consent to search his vehicle. According to the report, Fletcher said, “Yes.”

Hutchinson reported he and Sequoyah County Deputy Lance Yoakum found components to a methamphetamine lab, two plastic bags containing a green leafy substance that field tested for marijuana, one plastic bag containing a white powder substance that filed tested positive for methamphetamine and 10 Valium, which are a schedule IV narcotic.

According to the report, Fletcher told Hutchinson he did not know how to manufacture methamphetamine. He said he was picking up the ingredients for somebody that knew how.

Fletcher was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail and released on a $75,000 bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 6 in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
