District Attorney Jerry S. Moore announced last week that 10 parents who failed to appear in court and pay their child support now face county jail time.

Moore said District Judge Mike Norman immediately issued bench warrants for those who failed to appear at the Sequoyah County child support docket on Dec. 16. The 10 non-custodial parents for whom warrants were issued are:

•Arthur Hayes, $36,573.54, cash only bond;

•Pattina Hardage, $10,329.87, cash only bond;

•Gary Hale, $2,400, cash only bond;

•Efran Gutierrez, $14,849.74, cash only bond;

•Amanda Frost, $12,424.67, cash only bond;

•Donald Edwards, $6,838.11, cash only bond;

•Misty Dishon, $3,825.50, cash only bond;

•Douglas Jahn, $1,490.54, cash only bond;

•Marc Stone, $27,676.71, cash only bond;

•Robert Shepard, $32,906.86, cash only bond.

The district attorney’s child support office asks that anyone with information about where these or other wanted persons can be located should call any local law enforcement officer for immediate arrest.

Other parents, whose cases are worked by Moore’s Sallisaw child support office, have paid a total of $194,809.36 so far for the month of December.

Moore said that, “The mission of the Office of Child Support Services (OCSS) is to enhance the well-being of children by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing reliable sources of support for families entitled to child support.”

The Oklahoma legislature and the U.S. Congress has enacted laws to allow Child Support Services to collect child support owed from non-custodial parents who receive payments from Social Security, Worker’s Compensation, and personal injury settlements as well as regular employment paychecks.

The district attorney provides face-to-face visits with child support workers in Stilwell on the first Wednesday of every month at the Department of Human Services between 1 and 3 p.m. In Sallisaw, the child support office is open from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located at 1611 S. Kerr Blvd. next door to the Sequoyah County Department of Human Services offices.

Anyone owing child support or needing information is encouraged to call 1-800-522-2922 or contact the local office in Sallisaw. Child support payments should be mailed to: OCSE, P.O. BOX 268849 Oklahoma City, Okla. 73126-8849. John Sawney is the managing attorney for the Office of Child Support Services in Sallisaw.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
