On Dec. 23 Sequoyah County Sheriff deputy’s served a narcotics search warrant at 7:30 a.m. at a residence on East Wild Horse Mountain Road and arrested one person.

Melissa Mae Evans, 45, of Sallisaw was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail after deputies found numerous drug-related items at her home.

According to the affidavit Eric Helms, criminal investigator for the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s office, had probable cause for believing Evans was manufacturing methamphetamines and was issued a search warrant on Dec. 22.

Deputies found digital scales, a plastic bag of white powder substance, and a glass smoking device. Deputies also found a gallon glass container of a two-layered liquid weighing 1,811 grams, several blister packs and hydrogen peroxide bottles, which can be used in the manufacturing of methamphetamines.

Evans told deputies she didn’t know anything about what the deputies found at her home. According to the report she refused to talk about the items when deputies tried to ask her what she knew.

Evans was booked in the Sequoyah County Jail and released Dec. 24 on a $50,000 bond. As of Your TIMES press time charges have not been filed.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
