Five Sequoyah County residents were arrested after Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Deputies and District 27 Drug Task Force agents executed a narcotics search warrant north of Roland.

Herman Ray Wheeler, 54, Billy Don Wheeler, 52, Jason Lee Sparkman, 32, Jason Edward Coppock, 34, all of Muldrow, and Brian Keith Jones, 45, of Van Buren, Ark., were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on various drug-related charges Wednesday.

While searching the residence officers confirmed the suspects were concealing chemicals and equipment commonly associated with the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Officers at the scene also reported finding substances appearing to be methamphetamine and marijuana, and paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution and use of controlled dangerous substances. A police radio scanner, which was scanning local law enforcement frequencies, was also found during the search.

Herman Wheeler, Coppock and Billy Don Wheeler were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a police scanner in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jail records indicate that all three are being held without bond and their arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in Sequoyah County District Court, Sallisaw.

Sparkman was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on an outstanding arrest warrant for obtaining cash or merchandise by bogus check/false pretenses. Sparkman is being held on a $5,000 bond as well as a $174 fine.

Jones was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail on endeavoring to manufacture a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a police scanner in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jail records indicate that Jones is being held without bond.

“The Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and the District 27 Drug Task Force will continue their efforts to combat the drugs within Sequoyah County,” Sequoyah County Sheriff Ron Lockhart said. “In investigations such as this, public awareness is crucial. Anyone noticing unusual activity at a location, such as high-volume short-stay traffic, is encouraged to contact the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office. All information will be kept confidential.”

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
