POTEAU - The Sallisaw Black Diamonds wrapped up a trip to the Class 4A Dual State Wrestling Tournament last Thursday with a pair of district wins at Poteau.

Sallisaw defeated Poteau 72-6 and Wagoner 68-12 to cap a perfect 3-0 record in the district and run its dual record to 14-0 overall. The Diamonds had previously topped Locust Grove in their first district outing.

Sallisaw coach Darrel Hume was pleased to qualify for Dual State, but expects some tough competition.

“This was a major goal of ours. In fact, we want to make it all the way to the finals and give it a shot for first place.,” said Hume.

“We’ll be the underdogs, but we’ll be ready. It’s going to be one of the toughest Dual States ever because the top four teams are so evenly matched. It’s going to be a dog fight in the semifinals and the rankings don’t mean anything. There are four teams—Tuttle, Cushing, Blackwell and Sallisaw—that could beat any of the others in any week.”

Official pairings for Dual State will be announced by the OSSAA the first week of February. Dual State is set for Feb. 12-13.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
