Gray serves as district attorney for Sequoyah, Wagoner, Cherokee and Adair Counties.
Jeff McMahan, state auditor and inspector, told the Tulsa World Tuesday that he is "speeding up the process of auditing items seized" by Gray's office. Gray's Drug Task Force investigates drug activities in all four counties, and during drug raids task force members seize numerous items related to the making and selling of illegal drugs. The law allows items believed to have been purchased with drug money to be seized, such as cars and guns. In the past, the district attorney's office has offered these items for sale at public auctions to raise money for the continuing war on drugs.
Gray was summoned to testify before Attorney General Drew Edmondson's multi-county grand jury in Oklahoma City last month. Because grand jury investigations are normally kept secret, the subject of Gray's testimony was not made public.
In his comments to the Tulsa World McMahan said his office determines if the forfeitures in drug-related cases are done properly and sometimes makes sure that the inventory of the property is up to date.
Gray was unavailable for comment Wednesday morning.
