The Sallisaw Police Department seized two drugs labs in two days during drug investigations this week that left five local residents behind bars.

The first investigation was conducted at Houser Street apartments Wednesday after police said they received information about a methamphetamine lab at an apartment.

Lt. David Bethany, Detective Larry Blount, Detective Sandra Girdner, Sgt. John Owens, and Cpl. Jeff Murray conducted a "knock and talk" at the apartment and saw a methamphetamine lab when Kyle Elliott of Sallisaw opened the door.

Elliott, 18, Brian Stobaugh, 29, and Kimberly Casias, 30, all of Sallisaw were arrested. Officers then obtained a search warrant, and reported seizing a drug lab and drugs inside the apartment.

The Sallisaw Fire Department was called to the scene to ventilate the room.

All three suspects were booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw on two counts of possession of precursor, manufacture of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) with intent to distribute, manufacture of CDS within 2,000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia and marijuana, and unlawful dumping. According to jail records, all three were being held on no bond and were set to be arraigned Friday. Stobaugh also faces the charges after former conviction of a felony. He is currently on a 20-year suspended sentence.

Second Lab

Blount received an anonymous call Thursday about a working methamphetamine lab at a room at the Golden Spur Motel on South Kerr Boulevard in Sallisaw.

Police said when they arrived at the motel and knocked on the motel room door, a person came to the door wearing rubber gloves. In plain view was a working methamphetamine lab, police said. The fire department was called to the scene again to ventilate the room.

Rodney Hal Hodges, 28, and Sarah Cecil, 32, both of Sallisaw, were arrested. Hodges gave officers permission to search the motel room and his truck parked in front of the motel. Police said Hodges was also a suspect in a prior arson at Village West Apartments due to another methamphetamine lab.

Hodges and Cecil were booked into the county jail on charges of two counts of endeavoring to manufacture, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Hodges charges were after former conviction of a felony. Cecil also faces a charge of possession of CDS. Both were being held Friday morning on no bond, and were set to be arraigned Friday, according to jail records.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
