A Muldrow man is accused of a sex crime relating to an incident involving a 16-year-old girl.

John D. Lockett, 39, was charged April 17 with felony sexual battery, according to court records. Lockett was formerly convicted in 1987 in Tulsa County of grand larceny and in 1989 in Tulsa County for possession of a stolen vehicle.

According to Muldrow Police Sgt. Tim Keith's report, the mother of the alleged victim, a 16-year-old girl, saw her daughter walking from the 7th Street Apartment complex parking lot crying. The girl told her mother that she needed to talk to her. The girl told her mother that she was near their trailer when a man named "John" who lived at the apartment complex across the street, had yelled for her to come over.

The girl told police that she went across the street to see what he wanted, and "John" asked her if he could kiss her, to which the girl refused. The girl told police that the man then grabbed her and began kissing her and he then touched her inappropriately. The girl told Keith that she pulled away and began crying as she took off toward her mother's trailer.

Keith later showed the alleged victim a photo lineup and the girl picked Lockett as the man who assaulted her.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
