W.G. "Butch" Lamb will return as the Ward 1 commissioner and Clayton Meadows will take the oath of office as the Ward 3 commissioner.
Both Lamb and Meadows were unopposed for the positions. Consequently the city did not hold a municipal election this spring. Meadows replaces Ron Lockhart as the Ward 3 commissioner. Lockhart did not seek re-election. The commission will present Lockhart with a plaque at the meeting, commemorating his service to the city.
BUSINESS ON AGENDA
The commissioners will consider an agreement with the state to install flashing lights and crossing arms at the railroad crossing on Redwood Street on the city's west side. The project is expected to cost $397,343. The city's share of the project cost is $31,644. The remainder of the cost will be paid with Federal-aid and railroad company funds.
Commissioner Wayne Ferguson has asked the city commission to review the electric rates for churches. Two of the larger churches in Sallisaw have a higher rate because their size pushes their consumption into the higher industrial electric rate. Assistant City Manager Keith Skelton studied the churches' electric consumption and will present his study to the commissioners at the meeting.
The commissioners will also open bids on replacing electric poles, which the city has already purchased. The bids will be for labor only.
