Summer Elaine Hawkins, the daughter of Tom and Karen Hawkins of Sallisaw, has been selected as a finalist for Oklahoma's 27th annual Homecoming Queen Selection to be held April 14 and 15 at the Oklahoma City Airport Holiday Inn.

Hawkins is the Sallisaw High School Football Homecoming Queen.

Oklahoma's 2007 Homecoming Queen will receive a cash scholarship, an all-expense paid trip to the national finals to compete for America's Homecoming Queen with homecoming queens from other states.

Hawkins said she would like to thank her sponsors, including Neal Agent, Clif's Pharmacy, Armstrong Bank, Blue Ribbon Chevrolet-Dodge, Shelter Insurance George Glenn, Simple Simon's Pizza, Aroma's Coffee Shop, Richard and Lisa Hawkins, Cox Corner Store, First Assembly of God, all of Sallisaw, Cherokee Nation Council member David W. Thornton Sr. of Vian, and Joe and Paula Strong of Muldrow.

Hawkins said she would like to invite everyone to attend the 3 p.m. April 15 event.

America's Homecoming Queen Inc. is a non-profit organization promoting education, educational travel, and community service in all 50 states.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
