An Oklahoma City woman was injured Monday when her vehicle crossed the center median on Interstate 40 near Vian, overturned and was struck by a semi-tractor trailer.

Van Bich Phillips, 49, of Oklahoma City was driving a 2003 Chevrolet van east on Interstate 40 at about 4:53 p.m. when the accident occurred about two miles west of Vian, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported.

According to the OHP, Phillips' van crossed the center median and overturned three-quarters of a time, before being struck by a westbound 2001 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer driven by Paul James Evans of Oilton. Evans, 32, was not injured in the accident.

Phillips was admitted to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw in stable condition with head injuries. The OHP reported that Phillips and Evans were both wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The OHP reported that Phillips was tired at the time of the accident, and listed the cause of the collision as inattentive driving.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
