A 42-year-old woman who jumped from the second tier of the commons area in the Sequoyah County Jail, so she could get out of jail, will be paying for her own extensive medical bills, the jail administrator said.

Administrator Christine Calbert said Mary Katherine Ince of Sallisaw was jailed on two charges - for issuing a bogus check and for taxes due to the state.

Calbert reported to the members of the Sequoyah County Criminal Justice Authority, which oversees jail operations, on Monday about Ince's plan to escape incarceration.

"She admitted she jumped because she wanted to get out of jail," Calbert said. "She said she intentionally did it, but Judge (Dennis) Sprouse won't entertain that."

Calbert said Ince jumped on Friday and was taken to a Tulsa hospital for treatment. Ince will be responsible for her own medical bills, the jail administrator emphasized.

Ince underwent surgery on Sunday to repair her broken elbow and another surgery is planned to repair her broken shoulder. She remains hospitalized, Calbert said, adding the injuries are "...something she is going to have to live with the rest of her life."

Calbert told authority members it is not expected that Ince will be returned to the county jail, but will most likely be incarcerated elsewhere.

In other business at the authority's Monday meeting, members approved paying for workmen's compensation insurance in two installments, for a total of $30,995.

Calbert also reported that, as of Monday, the county jail had 92 inmates.
