A postal employee and another driver were taken by ambulance to a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital after a recent accident north of Roland in the Liberty community.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Clint Craft said that the accident occurred at about 3:05 p.m. Jan. 25.

Craft said Tina Branham of Sallisaw was in the process of delivering mail in her personal vehicle - a Chevrolet S-10 truck - when she pulled up to a mailbox and was struck from behind by a GMC Blazer driven by Bobbie Green.

Green had come over a small hill before striking Branham's vehicle, but Craft said Green should have been able to see Branham's vehicle.

Craft said Green did not hit her brakes, but tried to swerve to the left, and instead of avoiding Branham's vehicle, ran into the back of the vehicle. The impact is believed to have caused Branham's vehicle to hit a guide wire on a telephone pole, which may have caused a spark, but no fire or explosion.

Pafford EMS transferred both drivers to Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith, Ark., where they were treated and released.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
