(SPECIAL TO YOUR TIMES)
Several employees from Cherokee Casino Roland pitched in to revitalize a local community building in need of repair.
Over the course of two days, the Cherokee Casino volunteer crew painted and made repairs to the Waylon Jones Complex in Roland. With these new repairs and a new floor planned in the near future, the complex will generate greater profits for the Town of Roland and provide a more appealing rental option for local and surrounding community members.
"Our employees jumped at the opportunity to help their local community," David Stewart, Cherokee Nation Enterprises (CNE) chief executive officer (CEO), said. CNE operates Cherokee Casinos. "This project was solely up to our employees at Roland. They got the supplies, donated their time, and finished the task. We are really proud of them."
The Waylon Jones Complex is owned by the Town of Roland. After visiting the building, Eli Pumpkin, marketing manager for Cherokee Casino Roland, noticed the building needed to be painted. Cherokee Casino Roland and Cherokee Casino Sallisaw plan to use the building for future engagements.
"My hat is off to Eli for having the foresight to make this project a reality for the Roland community," Cherokee Inn manager Randy Manard, volunteer from Cherokee Casino Roland and local citizen, said.
"The building is at a great location and with the improvements, it'll be an even nicer venue for community events. I was proud to complete this project and work with so many hard-working and generous people."
Cherokee Casino Roland employees painted the interior of the Waylon Jones Complex with paint donated by Cherokee Casino Roland.
CNE recently received the top award for community service at the Stars of the Industry Awards presented by the Oklahoma Hotel & Lodging Association. The company achieved the award due to the volunteer efforts of Cherokee Casinos' casino and hotel employees and donations given by the company.
Cherokee Casino Roland is CNE's first casino establishment. It opened in 1990, and includes the Cherokee Casino Inn, Roland Smoke Shop and Cherokee Travel Plaza. The property employs more than 380 people.
