Sam Ed Bush Jr. is seeking election to District 3, Seat 1, on the Cherokee Nation Trial Council.
Bush said he grew up in the Marble City, where he lives today with his wife Linda. He is the son of Bernice (Choate) Bush and Sam Ed Bush Sr. who served as a Cherokee Nation Tribal Councilman for over 20 years.
Sam Ed Jr. said he was raised to care about issues facing Cherokee communities.
He worked with the Missouri Pacific/Union Pacific Railroad for 15 years. As a mental health para-professional Bush counseled troubled youth at the Horizon Adolescent Treatment Center in Fort Smith, Ark., for six years. He worked with families and individuals in crisis while employed by the Human Development Center of Sequoyah County, a People's Inc. division.
Bush is a certified engineer with the Pioneer Railroad where he has worked the last four years. An active community member, Sam served as the Marble City Historical Society president. He helped develop a community album project, a historical record of the community people, families and historical sites.
Bush said he understands economic potential offered in the multi-billion dollar tourism industry and will work to build cultural tourism opportunities in rural communities.
He said he will also devote his time to improvement in health care delivery systems, preservation of the Cherokee culture and language, and work to continue the progress in building a self-sufficient Cherokee Nation with career path jobs for the Cherokee people.
"As your tribal councilman I will focus on the enhancement of well being and the self-sufficiency of Cherokee communities and people," Bush said.
