The second annual Lady Fair offers entertainment and information just for women from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Oct. 1 at the First Baptist Church Activity Building, 221 S. Commercial Rd., in Tahlequah.

Proceeds from Lady Fair will benefit Help-in-Crisis, the agency which assists victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse in the Sallisaw area, and in Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah, and Wagoner counties.

"We are excited about this year's Lady Fair," Donna Hines, Help-in-Crisis Child Advocacy Center staff member, said.

Shawna Morris, Sequoyah County Help-in-Crisis court advocate, added, "With so many federal and state budget cuts, the money raised by Lady Fair is a big help in funding HIC's programs in Sequoyah and the other three counties."

Katy Felts is director of Help-in-Crisis' newest program, the Child Advocacy Center, in Sallisaw.

"Because of HIC, we are able to have this wonderful facility that makes such a difference in the lives of children involved in child abuse investigations," she said.

Nearly 20 vendors will offer merchandise for sale at Lady Fair including cosmetics, soaps, candles, gourmet foods, purses, clothing, jewelry, and gift items. Other vendors will provide vacation and travel ideas, health and fitness opportunities, and spinal evaluations. Still others will demonstrate make-up techniques, kitchen accessories, and music and dance opportunities.

Free manicures will be provided by students from Tahlequah's Beauty Technical College, and massage therapists will give mini-massages to event visitors for a $5 contribution to Help-in-Crisis. A silent auction featuring dozens of gift baskets is planned for Lady Fair, and door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.

Four musical groups will provide instrumental background music during the day, and refreshments will be available for purchase in the morning. A light lunch of croissant sandwich, beverage, and dessert will be prepared and served by the culinary students at Talking Leaves Job Corps Center for a $5 donation to Help-in-Crisis. Only 200 lunch tickets will be available.

Tickets for Lady Fair may be purchased at the door for $5, and advance admission and lunch tickets are available at the Help-in-Crisis office at 205 N. College in Tahlequah.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
