Three men connected with the alleged beating of an 18-year-old man in Roland on Aug. 9 have been arrested and two of them remain behind bars, according to police.
Ezekiel Warford, 19, of Fort Smith, Ark., and Eric Michael Dolan, 22, of Roland were each charged last week with felony maiming and conspiracy relating to the beating of 18-year-old Matthew White. William Todd Drake, 44, of Roland, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled drug with intent to distribute, conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records. White was allegedly beaten in Drake's home during a party attended by juveniles.
Warford turned himself in to Roland police and was booked into the Sequoyah County Jail in Sallisaw Friday, jail personnel reported. As of Tuesday, Warford was being held on a $15,000 bond.
Sequoyah County Jail personnel said Drake was booked in on Aug. 28 and was released within a half hour on a $15,000 bond.
Dolan was arrested in Fort Smith, Ark., was arrested Aug. 28 on a separate Fort Smith warrant for animal cruelty and is being held on the charges out of Sequoyah County, Fort Smith police said Tuesday.
Roland Police Officer Stephen Westbrook reported that on Aug. 9 he and Officer John Hancock responded to a Roland home about an 18-year-old barely breathing. When police arrived, Westbrook reported seeing a male, identified as Matthew White, lying on the floor in the entryway severely bleeding after apparently being beaten until unconscious.
Warford is accused of beating White on the head and face with his bare hands. Other witnesses said Warford came back in after the assault and hit White again. Warford allegedly spoke to each person at the party, trying to get people to help him beat White. Witnesses said that Warford allegedly said he would "not stop until White was in a wheelchair the rest of his life." Warford allegedly said White would be going to the intensive care unit the night of the assault.
Roland Police Chief Tommy Sessums said after the incident that the victim was taken by ambulance to a Fort Smith, Ark., hospital, and he was in intensive care after the beating.
In the charges against Dolan, Westbrook wrote that after interviewing several witnesses it was determined that Dolan locked the home owner, Drake, out of the house and began to kick White repeatedly in the head. Witnesses said that Warford asked Dolan to help beat White that night.
According to charges against Drake, he is accused of providing beer and marijuana to juveniles, as well as an item used to smoke marijuana. He is also accused of conspiring and agreeing with Warford, Dolan and five other juveniles to commit the crime of maiming by planning with the others to lure and transport White to the home of Drake, court records indicate.
Dolan is also accused of animal cruelty in a separate incident early last month in Fort Smith. According to a Fort Smith police report, Dolan had been living with a couple when he got drunk and got mad at a cat in the home. The couple told police they saw Dolan "slam the cat down in the bathtub." Dolan allegedly took the cat outside and slammed it down on the sidewalk before throwing it over the neighbor's house and into a backyard.
Police discovered the dead cat on the neighbor's deck. Police located Dolan passed out in a bedroom of the couple's home. He told police that he did not hurt the cat and denied slamming the cat onto the ground or bathtub. Dolan told police that the last time he saw the cat he threw it out the front door after the cat used the bathroom on the floor. Dolan said the cat ran off.
The couple banned Dolan from the home and police explained to him he would be arrested if he returned. Dolan's brother picked him up from the home, and police explained to the couple how to obtain a warrant for Dolan.
