Bill Jack Brooks of Roland was sentenced by Special District Judge Dennis Sprouse to five years in prison. Brooks had been participating in the Sequoyah County Drug Court program and was on probation for drug charges and domestic abuse. Brooks was terminated from the program after repeat violations of the program, including failed drug tests, Moore said.
"Brooks was given an opportunity to stay out of prison, but failed to take advantage of a wonderful program like drug court," Kyle Waters, assistant district attorney, commented.
A Sallisaw man was also sentenced by District Judge Jeff Payton to five years in prison for probation violations.
Mark Posey was on probation for various drug offenses when he was arrested as a result of a traffic stop by Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Lance Yoakum. Yoakum discovered methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on Posey.
Another Sallisaw man, Teddy Ray Norrid, was also sentenced to five years in prison, Moore said.
Norrid was on probation for drug offenses when members of the sheriff's department and District 27 Drug Task Force raided his home in June. Officers discovered methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and chemicals consistent with a methamphetamine lab.
"Teddy Norrid has led a criminal lifestyle for quite some time and now is behind bars for that lifestyle," Waters said.
