Kalyn Baker, Garrett Gladd and Benjamin Dodson, students at Tommie Spear Middle School in Sallisaw, have been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum.

The students will join a select group of students in Washington, D.C., March 19 through 25 and will earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the monuments and institutions, Peg Thomas, People to People Ambassador Program president, said.

"From Capitol Hill to the Smithsonian Institute, and from Colonial Williamsburg to the National Museum of American History, the students will examine the characteristics of American leadership during times of national challenge and prosperity," Thomas said.

"Forum delegates will also participate in small-group discussions and exercises to experience first hand how successful leaders develop strategies, make decisions, build consensus, and foster change," Thomas said.

The students were selected for their outstanding scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential, Thomas said.

Baker is the daughter of Tracy and Randall Baker, Gladd is the son of LouAnn Gladd, and Dodson is the son of William and Shelly Dodson.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
