Dennis Fields, 911 board member, said Slaughter has police experience.
“We think he can handle the job,” Fields said of the 911 board. “He wants to better the community.”
In other news from Tuesday’s commissioners’ meeting, Chris Keathley, Sequoyah County Emergency Management director, told the commissioners that Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) personnel would be in the county Wednesday or Thursday to look at roads damaged during snow storms last month. Keathley said they would be looking at chip-and-seal roads, which suffered the most damage.
District 1 Commissioner Bruce Tabor said about the chip-and-seal paved roads, “They are all coming apart.”
Keathley warned the county officials that FEMA money may not be available due to the bad winter weather and number of disaster designations being approved.
The commissioners approved the purchase of a loader backhoe for District 3 at a cost of about $74,000 through the County Road Machinery and Equipment Revolving Fund. District 3 Commissioner Mike Huff said the backhoes usually cost about $100,000 but can be purchased cheaper through the fund.
The commissioners also approved the appointment of Teresa Kepke and Loyd Isley as the requisitioning agents for the Brent Fire Department and appointed Darrell Vix and Dennis Garrett as the receiving agents for the same department. Lance Calhoun was reappointed to the department’s board of directors.
