A Sequoyah County man's probation was recently revoked after violating the rules of a special program for non-violent drug offenders.

Sequoyah County District Attorney Jerry S. Moore announced Tuesday that Franklin Taylor has been convicted on numerous drug charges, including manufacturing a controlled dangerous substance in Sequoyah County.

Moore said that Taylor was given the opportunity to complete the Sequoyah County Drug Court in lieu of going to prison. Taylor violated his probation by continued drug use, and the drug court program requested his termination from the program.

Prosecutors then filed an application to revoke Taylor's probation, which resulted in District Judge Jeff Payton sentencing Taylor to five years in prison. While in prison, Taylor will be allowed to participate in the Thinking for a Change program.

"Drug court is a valuable tool and has been highly successful. Unfortunately, Mr. Taylor did not follow the program and belongs in prison," Kyle Waters, assistant district attorney who handled the case, said.
