A bogus check and restitution warrant sweep recently yielded arrests in four counties.

Jerry Moore, district attorney for Adair, Cherokee, Sequoyah and Wagoner counties, said that 20 residents with outstanding warrants were arrested in the four-county district during the warrant sweep, which was held Aug. 28 and 29. Moore said he would like to thank local law enforcement agencies and other citizens for their help.

Moore said while the number of those who were arrested for warrants wasn't quite what they hoped for, the warrant sweep spurred many people to turn themselves in and pay restitution.

District 27 investigators and area police officers served outstanding warrants at residences and places of employment for check writers as well as for people with other charges.

Those who received a notice of a warrant attempting to be served or know of someone who has an outstanding warrant are urged to contact Moore's office to resolve the issue before the next warrant sweep. Warrant sweeps will be an ongoing tool in District 27. Moore said there will be three or four warrant sweeps conducted per year.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
