Burglars recently struck the Brushy Boys & Girls Club, looting the club's game room of about $500 in electronic games and game equipment.

Terri Long, the club's unit director, said the burglary occurred between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. March 1 at the club, which is located inside Brushy School.

Long explained that someone, who Long believes was someone who knew the area and may have been a juvenile, broke into a side door to gain entry into the club.

All that was taken were games and game equipment, including two Sony PlayStation 2s, a Microsoft Xbox game system, a Gamecube console, and about 40 games. Nothing else was stolen in the school.

As soon as Long discovered the burglary at about 6:30 p.m., she contacted the Sequoyah County Sheriff's office to file a report.

The club is not the only victim in the Brushy area. Long said in the past three to four weeks there have been other acts of vandalism in the area, including the burglary of a business in the Brushy area, along with numerous mailboxes being destroyed.

Those who would like to make a donation to the club to replace the games are urged to call Long at (918) 775-4458, extension 37, starting March 24. The club will be closed during spring break, which is next week.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
