State Senator Jim Wilson (D-Tahlequah) was named recently as Democratic co-chair of the finance committee for the 51st Oklahoma Legislature by Senate President Pro Tempore Mike Morgan.

Also Wilson will serve as a member of the Agriculture, Rules, Health and Social Services and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Resources Committees.

"I have complete confidence in Senator Wilson's ability to serve as the co-chair of the Finance Committee," Morgan, D-Stillwater, said. "As chairman of the Tourism and Wildlife Committee for the last two years Senator Wilson has successfully navigated difficult waters to emerge as a respected leader in the Senate. I am honored that he has agreed to serve in this new capacity."

Wilson said he looked forward to serving in his new legislative role.

"I'm honored that Senator Morgan asked me to me serve as co-chair of the Finance Committee," Wilson said. " I look forward to the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead."

Following the Nov. 7 elections, the Senate will be evenly split with 24 Democrats and 24 Republicans for the 51st Oklahoma Legislature.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
