Basketball roundup: Lady Bulldogs reach Old Fort semifinals

FORT GIBSON - The Muldrow girls advanced to the semifinals of the Old Fort Classic tournament with a 59-27 rout of Wilburton on Tuesday in first-round action.

Sarah Martin led a balanced scoring attack for the Lady Bulldogs with 12 points as they improved to 9-6 on the season. Debra Silva added eight and Teala Cormier, Amber Roberts, Brandie Holt and Destiny Wilhite all scored six points apiece.

Muldrow took a seven-point lead into the second quarter and went on a 15-8 run to build a 28-14 halftime edge. The Lady Bulldogs then put the game away with an 18-2 spurt in the third quarter.

Muldrow will face the winner of Eufaula and Stilwell in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday. In other first-round girls' play, Fort Gibson and Inola both posted wins to set up the other semifinal match-up.

INOLA 72, MULDROW 56 (B)

FORT GIBSOB - Inola opened up a 10-point halftime lead and went on to drop the Bulldogs into the consolation bracket of the Old Fort Classic on Tuesday.

Inola (10-4) was led by Bach Elsman with 21 points and will take on Fort Gibson in the semifinals on Thursday.

Muldrow was paced by Jake Peterson with 13 points and Andrew Kalua with 10. The Bulldogs will meet Wilburton at 5:50 p.m. Friday in the next round of the tournament.

VIAN 72, SPIRO 51 (B)

VIAN - In a rematch of last season's area consolation final, the Wolverines won their fourth game in a row while topping Spiro in non-conference play.

The Wolverines won the 2007 playoff game in overtime, but this one wasn't as close as Zach Rogers had a strong all-around game for Vian. Rogers had 25 points, 17 rebounds and six assists to help Vian move to 13-3 overall.

Rogers and teammate John Steeley both canned three three-point shots. Steeley finished with 16 points, Ryan Taylor added 13 and Tyren Knight 10.

William Whitfield scored a team-high 17 for Spiro.

VIAN 60, SPIRO 39 (G)

VIAN - The Lady Wolverines bounced back from a rare loss the night before to pin a 21-point loss on the visiting Lady Bulldogs.

Leiloni Smith scored 13 points, Lacy Brown 11 and Tara Smith nine as the Lady Wolverines pushed their record to 13-3 with the non-conference victory.

GANS 58, WEBBERS FALLS 42 (B)

WEBBERS FALLS - Joe Brunk, Cody Gardenhire and Nick Woodruff all scored in double figures for Gans as the Grizzlies won a Riverside Conference game on the road Friday night.

Brunk and Gardenhire each dropped in 13 points and Woodruff tallied 11 to help the Grizzlies improve to 8-10 overall.

Webbers Falls slipped to 4-12 with the homecoming loss, despite 15 points from Levi Sims and 10 from Clifton Gilbert.

GANS 42, WEBBERS FALLS 30 (G)

WEBBERS FALLS - The Lady Grizzlies spoiled Webbers Falls' homecoming on Friday while downing the Lady Warriors in Riverside Conference action.

Freshman post Becca Brannon led Gans with 14 points, while Kimmy Carter paced the home team with 12.

VIAN 58, BOYNTON 57 OT (B)

BOYNTON - Vian ruined the Cardinals' homecoming game on Friday night as Tyren Knight 's layup with 30 seconds left in overtime was the difference.

The Wolverines got a big game out of senior Zach Rogers, who poured in a game-high 32 points to lead the way.

Boynton was led by 19 points from Josh Penn.

BOYNTON 73, VIAN 63 (G)

BOYNTON - Kerisha Parker scored 23 points on Friday to guide Boynton past Vian, handing Vian its first Big Eight Conference loss of the season.

The Lady Wolverines dropped to 12-3 overall and 8-1 in the league although three players scored in double digits. Chelsea Stewart had 16 points for Vian, Tara Smith 13 and Lacy Brown 10.

Sherri Lang added 20 points for Boynton (13-5, 7-3) and Breanna Hutchinson 15.

CENTRAL 65, HULBERT 52 (B)

Junior guard J Johnson netted 23 points on Friday night to lead the Tigers past Hulbert in a Big Eight Conference game at Central.

The Tigers (10-6) got another 15 points from Casey Dillard, while Robert Elk added nine, Ryan Dodd eight, Trey Rogers seven and Juan Tarin three.

Hulbert got 20 points from Dillon Brown, but trailed by nine at halftime and couldn't catch Central after the break.

HULBERT 60, CENTRAL 54 (G)

The Lady Riders avenged an earlier loss to Central with a close win on the Lady Tigers' homecourt Friday night.

LaRa Arnall scored 25 points and Paiten Taylor had another 18 to lead Hulbert, which saw Central rally from a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to grab the lead. The Lady Riders fought off Central by outscoring the Lady Tigers 17-10 in the fourth quarter.

Central had four players score in double figures, including Kayla Lattimore and Lauren Drake with 14 points each. Shelby Morgan added 12 and Caitlin Cawhorn 11.

WARNER 60, GORE 38 (G)

WARNER - Warner outscored the Lady Pirates 21-8 in the fourth quarter to pick up the Big Eight win on Friday night.

Sarah Smithson paced the Lady Eagles with 16 points and Tiffany Lyons added 14 as they improved to 7-9 with the win.

Gore was led by Kera Smith with 13 points and seven rebounds. Macy Moseley scored eight, Dena Qualls seven, Holly Cordray six. Cordray agrabbed six rebounds and Qualls had five, while Lexy Ward passed out five assists for the Lady Pirates.

WARNER 71, GORE 53 (B)

WARNER - Warner took a 10-point halftime lead and pulled away in the second half to hand the Pirates a loss on Friday night in Big Eight Conference action.

Jed Baker pumped in 26 points and Blaine Ross 15 for Warner. Gore (7-9) was led in scoring by Devan Rineheart with 19 and Nick Humphrey with 11.
