Donors will have opportunities across Sequoyah County in the upcoming days to donate blood and save lives, Tammy Crites, donor recruitment supervisor for United Blood Services in For Smith, Ark., said.

The following are the upcoming blood drives in the area:

  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Harp's Foods in Gore
  • 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at The Journey Church, located on the corner of Dogwood and Cherokee Streets in Sallisaw
  • 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Roland Police Department.

  • Donors who give blood at any of these drives will receive a special National Blood Donor Month T-shirt.

"With the recent weather, we have had several blood drives cancel or not do very well," Crites said. "We are asking for blood donors to stop by any of these drives or come by our blood center located at 5300 S. U St. in Fort Smith."

Anyone interested in giving blood may contact Crites at (479) 652-2364. Walk-ins are also welcome.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
