"I want to thank everyone who supported me in the past six years," Philpot said. "We have accomplished a lot over that period of time."
Philpot said the city's biggest problem when he began with the police department was drugs, which also brought other crimes, such as domestic abuse and burglaries.
"We have been successful in lowering the crime rate in the city," Philpot said. "We have lowered the drug problem drastically."
Philpot said working with other law enforcement agencies has helped reduce the use and sale of drugs in Sallisaw.
"Myself, along with my department, will continue with the battle on drugs and will continue keeping our community drug-free, which is my main purpose," Philpot said.
Philpot said the police department now has four detectives.
"I am proud of the detective division and the work they do," Philpot said. "They are well-trained and dedicated and do a really good job."
Philpot said he has expanded the police department in other areas over the past six years, increasing the number of employees and police officers. He noted that the officers get more training each year.
"We have increased our vehicles, guns, and equipment, increased our drug forfeitures, and expanded the police department," Philpot said.
Philpot said the police department's relationship with city hall is good and he said they work together.
"I want to say that we have a great police department and our employees and officers do a great job, and that we are here for your needs and safety," Philpot said. "I would like to continue the work that I began with the Sallisaw Police Department and continue being your chief of police."
