Shalyn Coppin, 26, was charged with one felony count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor count of assault and battery.
According to court records, Sequoyah County Sheriff's Deputy Greg Cox reported that he received a call at 8 p.m. Dec. 15 about an assault west of Vian. The victim told police that he was traveling home with his wife when a white sport utility vehicle (SUV) came out of a driveway, swerved on the road and ran the victim and his wife off the road and into a ditch. The SUV then proceeded down the road, hitting a ditch and hitting a tree.
The driver of the SUV then approached the victim and started cussing at him and then hit him in the face. When the couple tried to drive away, the driver of the SUV came at them in his SUV head on.
The victim told Cox that he drove his vehicle backwards about a half mile to try to get away with the driver of the SUV. The victim reported that they noticed the driver of the SUV drove up to a home, got out and went in.
Cox reported that after talking with the victims, he and two troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) went to the mobile home where the SUV was parked. Cox reported that he noticed damage to the SUV.
No one answered the door to the home, but when Cox was leaving the home, he noticed a man under the house, crawling on his hands and knees.
The man was later identified as Coppin. Cox reported that Coppin had a strong odor of alcohol on him and matched the description given by the victim.
While talking to the couple, Cox reported that there were no visible marks on the victim, but the victim's wife was on the phone with an OHP dispatcher when Coppin hit the victim. OHP Trooper Dewayne Walters told Cox that his troop had the incident recorded by phone.
