Webb said W.G. "Butch" Lamb filed for Ward 1 city commissioner and Ron Lockhart filed for Ward 3 city commissioner.
Since neither of the incumbents sought re-election and no other candidates are seeking the posts, there is no need to hold the March 2 election Webb said.
The incumbents are Bob Wells in Ward 1 and Mark Barnes in Ward 3.
The new commissioners will be sworn into office at noon April 19.
This will be Lockhart's second time to serve as the Ward 3 commissioner. He represented the ward from 1993 to 1998.
Mayor Shannon said, "We appreciate the years that Mark and Bob have put in for the city. I thank them for their service and their time."
Barnes was unavailable for comment at Your TIMES press time.
Wells said he had enjoyed his two terms as city commissioner, but also felt it was time to step down.
"I know Butch will do a good job," Wells said about the new Ward 1 commissioner, adding a new point of view from a new commissioner would be good for the city.
Wells said, "I felt like I'd served the time I committed to, and it was time to step aside.
"I think we got a lot of stuff accomplished. I've enjoyed it. I felt we we've been able to make some good plans for the future of the city.
"It was a hard decision," Wells said. "I've been thinking about it for the last two or three months. We've been very busy over the past three months with the electric and fiber-optics studies and search for a new city manager. I felt like it was time to set back and catch my breath."
Wells concluded, "I'll miss it, I think."
