Bill Brockman Leaf, 58, of Vian was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma in Muskogee after pleading guilty to drug-related charges. Leaf was charged with maintaining a place for the purpose of manufacturing, distributing and using methamphetamine. Along with the 57-month prison term, Leaf was also sentenced to three years supervised release and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment.
Sperling said the charges resulted from an investigation by the Cherokee Nation Marshal's Service involving a methamphetamine manufacturing operation at Leaf's residence. During the execution of a search warrant in February 2003 the marshals found methamphetamine, chemicals and precursors, and the equipment needed in the production of methamphetamine on the property owned by Leaf.
D. Michael Littlefield, assistant U.S. attorney involved in the case, said, "The conviction of Leaf was a result of the cooperation between the marshal's service and the Sequoyah County Sheriff's Office in shutting down clandestine drug operations in Sequoyah County."
