The three Black Diamonds not only won their respective weight classes, but were also honored by coaches as Outstanding Wrestlers.
Teague won the award for the lower weights in the junior high division. The Black Diamond freshman pinned all three of his opponents in less than a minute while winning the conference title.
Hume, a junior 112-pounder, was the Outstanding Wrestler for the lower weights in the high school division. For the second year in a row, Hume did not have an opponent make it to the third round against him while he cruised to the championship.
Petree was the high school division's Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weights. The senior needed just one minute to pin his opponent in the finals at 171.
"They picked four Outstanding Wrestlers and we had three of them, so that's pretty good," said Sallisaw coach Darrel Hume.
Gans Standout Makes Recruiting Visit
Gans running back Kevin John signed with Bacone College last week and he might not be the only Grizzly football player to play at the next level.
Quarterback/safety Chris Plank is also receiving some attention from recruiters, said Gans head coach Trent Holt.
"Chris is going to take a trip to visit Westminster College in Missouri and they're talking like he could play up there," Holt said last week.
Watch Out for Muldrow When Matlock's Hot
The Muldrow girls basketball team is undefeated this season when Megan Matlock hits five or more three-point shots in a game.
The senior made six treys and scored 26 points in Friday's win over Roland and it was the third time this season she's sank at least five threes in a game.
Previously, Matlock sank five treys each in back-to-back wins over Sequoyah-Claremore and Wilburton at the Old Fort Classic in January at Fort Gibson.
Former Sallisaw Coach Joins OSSAA
Former Sallisaw coach Ron Etheridge has joined the staff of the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA).
Etheridge has moved into the position previously held by Marvin Barbee, who resigned in December. His new duties include supervision of game officials and basketball and football rules administration. Etheridge will also be in charge of tennis and golf competitions.
He joins the OSSAA staff following a nine-year stint as superintendent at Sequoyah-Claremore. Etheridge was head football coach at Sallisaw from 1978 to 1987, leading the Black Diamonds to an 88-32 record and two state titles.
