A Sallisaw woman is facing a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a 13-year-old girl.

Lutisha Barker, 20, of Sallisaw was charged Jan. 18 with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

According to the charges, the alleged incident occurred on Jan. 1 in Sallisaw. Sallisaw Police Lt. John Owens responded to a fight at Don's Mobile Home park, where he was met by a 13-year-old girl who reported that she was beaten up by several people.

Owens reported that the victim had scratches and visible bruises to her face and head. She told Owens that she knew one of the people who had beaten her up as "Tisha," who lives nearby, and another 15-year-old juvenile who lived in the mobile home park.

According to court records, Owens talked to the 15-year-old girl, who admitted that she had beaten up the girl. She was taken into custody. Later on, Owens located Tisha, whose name is Lutisha Barker and spoke to her about the fight. Barker allegedly admitted that she had been with the 15-year-old and that she was intoxicated. Barker allegedly told Owens that she got into a fight with the 13-year-old and got her on the ground and began "bashing her face" onto the street. The 15-year-old allegedly was the one who broke up the fight, Barker told Owens.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
