WEBBERS FALLS - Sallisaw won seven of the 14 bouts against No. 2-ranked Glenpool, but couldn't catch the Warriors on the scoreboard and suffered a 42-32 loss on Thursday night.

The district dual was originally set for Sallisaw, but was snowed out on Dec. 6. It was moved to a neutral site so fans at Webbers Falls-which is just starting up its program-could get a look at quality wrestling action.

They got their money's worth as both teams boast some of the state's elite wrestlers. Only one of those, defending state champion Garrett Bowling, did not see action as he received a forfeit victory at 135 pounds for Glenpool.

The Warriors cruised to a 36-9 lead after the first eight matches of the dual, but Sallisaw finished strong by winning five of the last six.

The most dramatic of those victories was in the heavyweight clash between Sallisaw freshman Derrek Branham and Glenpool sophomore Lafayette Humphrey, both of whom were state placers at last year's junior high all-state tournament. The two battled to a 1-1 draw after regulation and were still tied after the end of the first overtime period. Branham pulled out the sudden-death victory with 12 seconds left in the second overtime, escaping from Lafayette for the winning point in the final match of the dual.

Other Sallisaw victories came from Tim Humpherys, Grant Daffin, Blake Rea, Colt Sanders, Randy Tonch

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
