The high school basketball playoffs tip off this week for small schools with the larger schools set to get started next week.

Three of the local schools will all be in action at Bryant Reeves Fieldhouse as Gans hosts a Class A, Area III district tournament. Gans will face Cave Springs in both the girls and the boys games on Friday night. The losers of those contests will be eliminated, while the winners will move on to play Central in Saturday's championship games. Both the district champ and the runner-up will advance to next week's regional tournament. Gans will also be a sub-site for the regionals, with NEO A&M in Miami serving as the main host.

In Class B, Webbers Falls has been assigned to the Area III district tourney at Boynton-Moton. The Lady Warriors will open at 6:30 p.m. Thursday against Midway. A Webbers Falls win would match them up with the Braggs/Boynton winner for the district title on Saturday. The Webbers Falls boys are scheduled to play their first-round game at 6:30 p.m. Friday, also against Midway. The winner will most likely play No. 2-ranked Boynton in Saturday's final. First-round losers are eliminated while both finalists will move on to next week's regional tourney.

District play in Classes 4A, 3A and 2A is scheduled for Feb. 18-19. In 4A, Sallisaw will host the highly-ranked Fort Gibson boys and girls teams on Feb. 18, while Muldrow will travel to Checotah on the same night. Roland will host Hilldale on Feb. 19. The two county teams in Class 2A have been assigned to different areas. Gore, which is in Area IV, will play its district at Warner on Feb. 19. Vian is in Area III and will play at Keys, also on Feb. 19.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
