During a regular Vian town council meeting Tuesday, the council voted to strike from the minutes of the last meeting the verbal resignation of Fire Chief Ed Barton.

Barton resigned during the January council meeting when his mother's position as water clerk was terminated. Oleta Barton served as billing clerk for the Vian Public Works Authority (VPWA) for about 22 years. Ed Barton will remain as Vian fire chief.

In other business the council changed the hours that the window in the VPWA office will be open. The window will open at 8 a.m. and will close for lunch from 11 a.m. to noon, at which time it will reopen and remain open until 4 p.m. Plans are being made to provide new blinds and a new drop box.

The council approved having the Vian Fishing Derby at Vian Lake on April 24.

Items Approved

Items on the agenda that were approved by the council were:

Purchase Internet service for Vian Police Department (VPD) and Vian City Hall from Vian Public Schools.

Purchase intelligence gathering equipment with Homeland Security Grant for VPD from Draco's in Webbers Falls.

Purchase 15 new two-yard trash containers for the sanitation department, and purchase two new front tires for the sanitation truck.

Purchase two new front tires for a John Deer tractor.

Proceed with annexation of properties in section 22, Township 12N, Range 22E, east of town of Vian.

Bob Young was given an excellent yearly review but no raise at this time because all raises are frozen.

Kris Kirk was hired to assist with the new accounting practices in the city hall.

Items Tabled Until March

Needs for the City Lake to be worked on by Young with the Vian Charitable Trust Organization.

Purchase of a brush hog, a brush whacker, a road grader, and straightening a portion of Sanders Street.

Hiring an employee for the city hall and the hiring of a part-time dog catcher and part-time trash person were tabled until those positions could be advertised.

In other VPWA business, the council voted to remove Oleta Barton's name from the VPWA accounts and replace it with the names of Sharon DiGennaro and Teresa Ross.

The meeting adjourned at 12:10 a.m.
