Questions Over Tracy Dismissal

Dear Editor:

This letter is in regard to the "termination," (firing), of Dana Tracy by the Gore City Council by a vote of 3-2, from his job as a city worker.

We, (and many other Gore citizens), have two questions as to the action cited above:

1. Why, after over 15 years of positive service to the Town of Gore, was Dana fired? Most of the people who have lived in Gore for any length of time know that Dana is a real asset to our town. The "reason" given for the "termination" was only "for the betterment of the town." This is not a reason for the action because Dana has always worked hard to keep this town looking good, even using his own time and energy many times when he saw the need.

Dana's devotion to duty, his work ethic, his concern for the town and Gore citizens is well known.

Dana has worked many hours also, with the Volunteer Fire Department, both in training and service. It's sad that a lot of people do not appreciate good works when they see them.

Dana is a great organizer and superintendent while serving along side his co-workers.

It is not possible that the town of Gore will be better off with Dana Tracy off the job. Awhile ago when he was off work because of injury suffered while working for the city, we remember the unkempt, shaggy lots that had not been mowed for weeks. This neglect gave our town a run-down appearance that we had not seen in 30 years. When Dana was back on the job, the town began to look neat again.

So, does it seem that the firing of Dana Tracy is for the betterment of Gore. If you appreciate what Dana and his wife, Trudy, have done for our little town, why not let them know it?

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
