An ongoing investigation by the Sallisaw Police Department into an October burglary led to the arrest of two men Thursday, Sallisaw Police Chief Gary Philpot said.

Jason Looper, 25, of Sallisaw, and Gary Real, 24, of Akins, were arrested separately and booked into the city jail on charges of second-degree burglary after former conviction of a felony and knowingly concealing stolen property, Philpot said.

The men allegedly burglarized a wholesale business in the old Marvin's IGA building on Cherokee Street in Sallisaw in mid-October and stole several hundred dollars worth of items, including tools, batteries, clothing, and hats, Philpot said.

Philpot said officers were investigating the incident when they received a lead to some of the stolen property at a county residence.

Police found stolen property on the suspects, and when questioned, the men confessed to the burglary, Philpot said.

Real and Looper are each being held in the city jail on $12,000 bonds.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
