A Gore man was sent to the hospital Saturday night after jumping off a bridge in Wagoner County onto the bank of the Arkansas River after a one-vehicle accident.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) reported that Billy Drew Murray, 24, of Haskell was driving a 1994 Dodge truck north on U.S. Highway 69 in Wagoner County at about midnight Saturday when the accident occurred.

Murray was driving north when his vehicle struck the inside wall of the Arkansas River bridge that he was crossing.

A passenger in the vehicle, Michael McCraw, 23, of Gore apparently got out of the vehicle after the wreck and jumped off the bridge about 30 feet onto the bank of the river, the OHP reported. McCraw was taken by lifeflight to Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa where he was admitted in stable condition with internal and trunk injuries, the OHP reported.

Murray was treated and released by emergency medical service personnel at the scene for minor injuries.

A second passenger, Brandon Dean, 22, of Porter left the scene with minor injuries and was not treated, according to the OHP.

None of the men were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident, the OHP reported.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
