A Webbers Falls woman had to be cut from her vehicle after a one-car accident at about 1:14 p.m. Sunday.

Fire Chief Dana Tracy with Rural Fire Protection District No. 1 said Virginia Horton of Webbers Falls was cut from her vehicle with the help of the Vian Fire Department Jaws of Life after she missed a turn near the intersection of Moonshine Road and U.S. Highway 64 east of Gore.

"She was pinned in the vehicle for about 20 minutes," Tracy said.

Horton was transported to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw, but Tracy said he had no report on her condition.

Tracy said that Horton was driving west on Moonshine Road when she missed a curve about one-half mile from U.S. Highway 64, and her car skidded on sand, went off the road and hit a tree.

Tracy said fire departments from Gore and Webbers Falls also responded to the emergency, and he credited the Vian Fire Department for rescuing Horton from her vehicle.

"They did a good job," Tracy said.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
