Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the Gore School bond election and the Sallisaw municipal election.

Gore School will ask voters to approve a $2,570,000 bond issue March 1 to build a new multi-activity center, elementary building, and make roof repairs to the high school.

The Sallisaw municipal election will include the race for the position of police chief.

Kathy Webb, Sequoyah County Election Board secretary, offered voters some tips on how to make their votes count.

Webb said that a valid marking, which is a filled in arrow, is shown on posters at the polling place and inside the voting booths. If voters make mistakes marking their ballots, Webb said they should not try to correct those errors. Instead, voters should return the spoiled ballot to the precinct officials, who will destroy it and issue a new ballot to the voter.

Precinct polling place locations in the county for the March 1 elections are:

Gore School bond election:

Precinct No. 201 - Blackgum Fire Department

Precinct No. 203 - Vian Fire Department/town garage

Precinct No. 209 - Blackgum Community of Christ

Precinct No. 210 - West Tenkiller Fire station

Precinct No. 211- Carlile Fire Department

Precinct No. 212 - Gore Senior Citizens Center

Sallisaw municipal election:

Precinct No. 204 - McKey Fire Department

Precinct No. 205 - Tommie Spear Middle School

Precinct No. 206 - Old McKey School

Webb added that registered voters who want to vote by mail absentee ballot in either one of the elections have missed the application deadline.

She said voters who want to cast absentee ballots can still do so at the election board office from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Monday. A two-member, bipartisan absentee voting board will be on duty each day to assist absentee voters.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
