Two juveniles are in police custody in Sallisaw and may face charges of malicious injury to property for damage done by graffiti to businesses, a church, schools, and residences, Sallisaw Police Chief Gary Philpot said.

Warrants are currently being issued for two other juveniles and one adult who participated in two incidents of vandalism that occurred Sunday night and in another incident over two weeks ago, Philpot said.

"They did a lot of damage to the city and schools," Philpot said.

Philpot said several of the juveniles first spray painted their names and obscenities on the park bathrooms and area residences over two weeks ago.

The other juveniles were trying to throw the police off of their friends by spray painting walls at Carl Albert State College Sallisaw campus, Eastside Baptist Church, Eastside Elementary School, and a commercial business Sunday night, Philpot said.

Philpot said Tuesday they will be retrieving one juvenile who is now in Indiana and the adult who is staying with his mother in Texas, who participated in the graffiti two weeks ago.

Philpot said the charges filed against the juveniles and adult could be felonies if the total damage is found to be over $2,500.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
