Richard L. Gray, Sequoyah County District Attorney, announced Tuesday that two men were sentenced in Sequoyah County District Court on Feb. 24 on various drug and other charges after they failed to meet the conditions of their probations.

Gray said James D. Martin Jr., 21, was sentenced to five years in prison and five years suspended for possession of controlled drug and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Martin was on probation when the district attorney's office filed an application to revoke his sentence on Aug. 4 for failing to complete a rehabilitation program as ordered on Oct. 11, 2002.

Gray stated, "We gave this offender an opportunity to rehabilitate himself and he chose to not take advantage of it. He will now be given the opportunity to sit in prison."

Gray also announced that Matthew Allen Meadows, 33, was sentenced to 15 years to prison for multiple crimes including possession of a controlled drug, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a child, and knowingly concealing stolen property.

Gray said Meadows was also on probation for previous drug charges when his office filed an application to revoke his sentence for violating the rules and conditions of his probation.

Gray stated, "If they keep on breaking the law, I will keep on sending them to prison."
