PORTER - Gans and Porter split a couple of close games during the regular season, but their Class A district championship game was much more decisive.

Gans avenged a recent Riverside Athletic Conference loss at Porter by thumping the Pirates 60-28 on Saturday night to wrap up the district title.

The Grizzlies got a combined 42 points from Nick Woodruff and Kameron Pastore and also benefited from a strong defensive effort. Gans held Porter to just nine points in the first half and 28 total on Saturday, one night after the Pirates had scorched the nets for 85 points in a first-round win over Cave Springs.

Gans jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the first quarter and went on another run in the second quarter to build a 28-8 halftime lead before continuing to pull away after the break.

Junior guard Woodruff led all scorers with 22 points while senior center Pastore dropped in 20. Gans got another seven points from Joe Brunk, six from Jordan Henry, four from Kyle Southern and one from Andy Blake.

Porter was led by Adrian Moseley's 13 points and will advance to this week's regional tournament along with Gans.

The Grizzlies, who had a first-round bye at the district tourney, will play Frontier in a first-round winners bracket game Thursday night at Frontier, the regional sub-site. Frontier advanced by routing Prue 95-32.

In the girls' district championship this past Saturday, Porter defeated Cave Springs 50-35. Cave Springs had made it to the finals by beating Gans 55-36 on Friday night at Porter.
