Sequoyah Memorial Homecare-Home Health has received a Certificate of Achievement from the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality (OFMQ).
OFMQ is the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Oklahoma, for quality information in Dyspnea, otherwise known as "shortness of breath," which is one of the 10 publicly reported outcome measures for home care.
"Our staff is dedicated to improving the quality of care we provide to our patients, so it's rewarding to know that their hard work and dedication is having results," Penny Martin, registered nurse and Home Health director, said. "We made a concerted effort, and our patients definitely reaped the benefits."
OFMQ, working under contract with the Centers of Medicare & Medicard Services, provided tools and resources, training workshops and other guidance to facilitate Sequoyah Memorial Homecare-Home Health's efforts in quality improvement.
The non-profit organization, headquartered in Oklahoma City, works with volunteer home health agencies to provide free quality improvement assistance as part of the Home Health Quality Initiative, a national effort to improve the quality of home health care in the United States.
Sequoyah Memorial Homecare- Home Health has been serving the Sallisaw area since Dec. 18, 1990. Through hospice, home health, and extended care services, Sequoyah Memorial Homecare provides care and therapy in the patient's home. Skilled nurses provide quality care and treatment while certified aides assist patients with duties such as cooking, cleaning, errands, and laundry.
Through the Durable Medical Equipment department, patients have access to anything needed for care at home. Wheelchairs, walkers, bedside commodes, Ensure and other supplies are available by delivery or purchase. Sequoyah Memorial Homecare was one of the first agencies of its kind in the area.
