Supports Chief Philpot

Dear Editor:

I would like the citizens of Sallisaw to take a stand for decency and morality. Meth is one of the most dangerous drugs ever made. Its high lasts six or eight hours. Its effect is to impair judgment, destroying a person's view of right and wrong.

That drug is out there, now, on the street. Recently a drug lab was busted within 1,000 feet of Tommie Spear Middle School.

Now, I don't know Shaloa Edwards and a Resource Office for the schools is a laudable position. But, let's face it, he doesn't have the experience our current police Chief Gary Philpot has.

I know Gary Philpot. He was born and raised here in Sallisaw. He has stated his goal is to rid Sallisaw of dangerous drug meth. Gary is a God-fearing man. Salt of the earth. A man who knows you when he sees you. He is fair and impartial. He has six years of busting drug labs behind him. Can we citizens really afford to turn this important job over to someone inexperienced?

Meth dealers are out there on the street corners just waiting to get your kids and grandkids hooked on meth.

Can we afford to turn Gary out of office when he has done such a good job busting meth labs? Can our conscience allow us to do that?

Gary is for what is good and right in Sallisaw, and he has all the experience.

Vote for Gary Philpot for Sallisaw Police Chief on March 15.

After an experiment that lasted several months, the editors at Your TIMES decided this week to end the practice of allowing anonymous comments on our website because most of the comments involve personal attacks and unfounded accusations. These comments do not add information to a story, or add any true insight. While we believe in the free exchange of ideas, it had become evident that was not what was happening in the comment section of our website. Readers can also become fans of Your TIMES on Facebook and may comment on our postings there. Readers are also encouraged to write letters to the editor to the newspaper about matters of public interest. The newspaper circulation is several times that of the web site, so readership is much higher. Letters must include a name and phone number so that we may contact the writer to verify authenticity of the letter. Letters are limited to 500 words and one letter per writer per month is accepted.
